Beginner's Native American Flute Workshop

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for a Beginner's Native American Flute Workshop with Douglas Thunderhorse of Thunder Horse Flutes !

Participants must have their own Key of A 6-hole Native American Flute to participate in the workshop. The cost for the workshop is FREE WITH PURCHASE of any Thunder Horse Key of A flute. We highly recommend the Brown County Backpacker or Little Bear Flutes which cost only $89+tax. For folks who already have a Key of A flute from a different builder, workshop cost will be $20.

Beginner banjo workshop

Friday, January 13 5pm–6pm

If you've ever been curious about playing the banjo, now is your chance to try it out! Our Beginner Banjo Workshop is made for the complete beginner - No experience necessary! Only $20! Bring your own banjo, OR borrow one from our shop for an additional $5!

We will cover a brief history of the banjo, banjo setup, and some basic rolls, patterns, and techniques for your right hand using your first three chords!

Space is limited to only 8 participants and pre-registration and pre-payment are required!

Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop for Adult Beginners

Saturday January 21, 4:30–5:30

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for an Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop for Adult Beginners with instructor Audrey Jo Williams!!

Audrey Jo Williams is a professional musician who began her studies on double bass, cello, and violin and has over 10 years of experience teaching students of all skill levels, from adults to high school students to young children just starting out. Her students have won and placed in national competitions, gotten into the prestigious IU String Academy at the Jacobs School of Music as well as gotten into the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. Audrey has taught strings at a variety of Elementary and Intermediate Schools and has performed as Principal Bassist in the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.

This Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop is intended for adult beginners. No experience is necessary, though this workshop will be good for complete beginners through early violin students. This workshop will focus on many beginner concepts including instrument care and maintenance, how to hold the instrument (bow and violin), tuning, proper use of your right hand (and how to use the bow), and the basics of beginning to use your left hand by learning some basic techniques and scales. This workshop will include techniques that can apply for both beginner violin and fiddle students.

Brown county ukulele festival

Friday–Sunday, January 20–22

The Brown County Ukulele Festival is here...and we are so excited! Can't wait to see some happy, smiling, familiar faces this weekend! To celebrate, we will be holding a drawing for two FREE Kala Ukuleles Elvis Ukes on Saturday evening! Any purchase on Friday, January 20th or Saturday, January 21st enters you to win! Two winners will be drawn on Saturday at 6:30pm from our booth at the Brown County Ukulele Festival at the Brown County Inn ! Winnners can pick up their ukulele from our booth on Saturday directly following the drawing OR anytime between 10am and 5pm on Sunday, January 22nd.

beginner clawhammer banjo workshop

Friday, January 27, 4:30pm–5:30pm

This banjo workshop will focus on beginner old-time banjo skills, with an emphasis on perfecting the foundation of playing clawhammer banjo - the "bum-ditty" strum. You will also learn how to get started using your left hand by learning a basic melody and your first 3 chords. Participants will learn the basics and be given exercises and tips for continued exploration and education.
This workshop is for the complete beginner (you don't even need to own your own banjo - just borrow one from our shop for an additional $5).
