Gold Tone CEB-5 Cello Banjo

The Cello Banjo originated in the late 1880’s and was used as a staple of banjos orchestras during that time period being used mostly to play the cello parts in a “classical” orchestra repertoire. Generally tuned a full octave below a standard banjo, this created the deep tones necessary for full orchestral pieces played by mulitiple banjos. Unfortunately, by about the 1920’s, the banjo craze amongst mainstream America was fading and the Cello Banjo slipped into near extinction. Thankfully, Gold Tone brought back the Cello Banjo and now contemporary players can experience this new and fascinating low banjo voice for use in any kind of music!

This is definitely one of our favorite new items in the shop! Strung with high-tension nylon strings to an octave below standard G Tuning, you are able to achieve a deep and punchy tone while being easy on the fingertips. The brass rod tone ring and 14” pot punch the low notes out strongly and clearly and the depth of tone is incredible. This is a great instrument for any banjo player or enthusiast of unique instruments! Available now at Weed Patch Music Company for $1399.99 with Gold Tone Hardcase included.
